Indiana Art: What's Your Story?

Indiana Art: What's your story?

Here at Antique Helper we see a lot of fine art, but nothing creates a buzz and air of excitement like a great piece of Indiana art. The advent of Autumn makes me reflect on the the rich history of painting we enjoy here in Indiana. The beauty of the landscape brings me closer to an understanding of what the experience of the Hoosier group might have been; carving a path with an artistic identity that was uniquely American, and in turn creating a new Nationalism for our country through art.

It is fun to experience the pride generated by the mention of the name of a Hoosier Group/Brown County painter to our local community. The mystique of Indiana/Brown County art has transcended time, and remains still an escape for artists. Some of the Brown County painters came from Chicago, or exhibited there. Many of them also traveled to Europe and came back saying Brown County reminded them of Northern France. The popularity of these artists has remained a stable force in the art world, and has gained even National notoriety in the recent years. Many Hoosier artists can now be found in European collections.

It seems everyone has a unique experience concerning Indiana's special contribution to the art world. I want to know yours!

Hello Wayne, James Doversberger is an Indiana artist with little documented or listed information. We have sold a few of his pieces in the past, and they did generate some interest. His painting style is very unique and interesting. You may see them when you click on past auctions and type his name in the search bar. In order to do an accurate evaluation on your pieces, however, I would need to see them in person, or you could send me some digital images to andrea@antiquehelper.com. I was unable to find an artist by the name of H. Amtoe. Thank you for contacting us. Andrea
