May 29, 2012 | view archive

When we looked around our fair city, we saw something happening: There’s a serious art movement going on. Handcrafters have taken a giant leap forward, while keeping one foot firmly planted in the past. We are seeing re-loved and repurposed items alongside beautifully handcrafted pieces.
Then, there is the huge surge in interest for all things vintage--but especially for stuff with that good retro, Mad Men-esque feel. Modern design meets handcrafted treasures, good food and a good brew: Mix them up, add a dash of good music, and suddenly, you have your hand on the pulse of the very definition of the creativity at the heart of our community.
With that in mind, we also saw something missing: A marketplace where these crafters, vintage vagabonds, gourmets and trendsetters could showcase their talents and wares on a regular basis. Other cities have their own artisanal marketplaces—shouldn’t we?
That’s when we decided that it’s high time for Indianapolis to have its own go-to monthly event showcasing the good things the crafters, brewers, trendsetters, cooks and collectors in this community have to offer.
… And that, my friends, is how Indie Arts and Vintage Marketplace was born. Think of it as a monthly celebration of the creativity and culinary treasures that abound in our swell town.

You’re going to find more than 30 booths, featuring fantastic finds running the gamut from fine antiques to esquisit junque to vintage retro treasures, handcrafted, reloved, repurposed and renegade art.
After you've finished feasting your eyes, remember to indulge your other senses, too.
Smoking Goose will be on hand, serving up some amazing fare. And the darling of local microbreweries, Sun King, will be on hand, serving up cold and frosty goodness for the over 21 crowd. Some of Indy’s finest food trucks will be on hand as well—including Scout’s Cupcakes, Slice of New York and Some of this Some of That.
Ladymoon will take the stage from 2-4, on June 2. Finish your shopping, then sit back and enjoy the music.
We can't think of a better way to to spend a Saturday.
