Sell It With A Flourish

January 12, 2012 | view archive

Some folks like to do things in a big way.  They enjoy the spotlight, and blossom with a little extra attention.  We’re sort of that way, too, so we understand.  Even when it comes to selling an antique or collectible, we think it’s always more fun to make a splash.

Why do anything the conventional way when you can make it fun?

2011 was a memorable year for Antique Helper.  We had the opportunity to sell some very unique objects and collections.  We took full advantage of these situations, and turned several auctions into full-blown social events.

Do you remember that Super Hero Auction  that took place at Antique Helper Auctions had last January? We had national news coverage for that event, plus plenty of local headlines and spots on our local news networks.

Dan, making one of many appearances on local news during the week leading up to the much talked about Super Hero Museum Collection Auction in January, 2011.

Our own John discovered he looked good in tights, too, when he stepped in to model the Superman costumes.

After all, why would you ever dream of using a mannequin when you have a perfectly good Vice President of Operations who is willing to step in and able to do an even better job?

On auction day, the house was packed.  We saw bidders who flew across the country in order to bid live in this exciting auction event.  We also had plenty of folks in our audience who just came along for the show.  We think it was an exciting day for everyone.

We did it last fall with our Subjective Art Auction, too.  Why wouldn’t you hire a band to help you sell a bunch of funky contemporary paintings?

And, don't even get me started on talking about how much fun we had with Jigger Sirois and his Indianapolis 500 Memorabilia.

Jigger shows off some of his racing memorabilia with the Antique Helper crew while he visits with fans and signs autographs at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a week prior to the June 3 auction.

We like to think of every auction as an event, with its very own personality.

We know that an amazing collection deserves impressive measures to ensure that both buyers and consigners will look back on the auction event with positive feelings.  That’s why we took things to a whole new level with the Townsend Collection: Part I on December 3.  We made sure that every detail, from marketing to hospitality, was not overlooked.

The breathtaking bannerstone, "Sunset Glory" was the centerpiece of the Townsend auction, bringing an amazing $210,000.

If there's fuss to be made about an auction, the staff at Antique Helper are the people who know how to make it happen.  We love to draw attention to your antiques and collectibles.

Really, who doesn't experience a thrill of excitement when they see a nice person discover that an object that's been in the family for years could be worth hundreds, or even thousands of dollars?

This Louis Vuitton trunk once belonged to Robert Louis Stevenson's stepson Samuel Osbourne. It was discovered in Central Indiana and sold for $8,000 in February of 2011.

We love it when things like that happen.  And, when it does, we prefer to make a little noise.

That's why we are so excited about Antique Week's Appraisal Fair and Home Show Auction: Powered by Antique Helper, coming up on January 20-22.  We have been given the opportunity to do what we do best: Evaluate your antiques and sell them at auction.

You should know by now that this won't be just another average auction.  In addition to the world-wide Internet audience that participates in every Antique Helper auction, your treasures will be taking center stage, in front of thousands of people attending The Indianapolis Home Show.  You may even have the opportunity to appear onstage, along with your item, during a special live appraisal presentation, prior to The Home Show Auction: Powered by Antique Helper.

That is what we call Selling With a Flourish.

For one fleeting moment, you could have it all:  Fame, the spot light, thousands of adoring fans, and after your item sells, a little extra cash to help tide you over till spring.

We suggest that you unearth that piece of Venetian glass, your grandpa's war mementos, that vase that your uncle brought back from that time he lived in Hong Kong, and your Aunt Sadie's cocktail rings. What about that French lithograph that you have kept tucked away in the back of your closet for years?  Let it see the light of day again, and show it to us!

Collections of all sizes are welcome, too. From fine art to furniture, from fishing lures to sports memorabilia to Native American artifacts, vintage travel posters, estate jewelry or Asian antiques, we welcome all submissions.
