George Biddle (American, 1885-1973), Horses, oil on canvas, 13" x 15 1/2". Signed and dated 1932 lower right. "Biddle, 264, Horses" verso. George Biddle, sculptor, painter and graphic artist and illustrator was born in Philadelphia. Well educated, he was known as a social realist painter who captured scenes from everyday life. Through his friendship with Franklin Roosevelt, he helped initiate the Federal Art Project that later became known as the W.P.A.
