A fine and rare Lwalu (Lwalwa) copper covered face mask; Lwalu, D.R. Congo. Hand hammered copper over powerfully carved mask. Concave face and pointed chin counterbalanced by the thrusting nose. Copper clad Lwalwu (Lwalwa) masks are usually associated with chiefdom, and used by the Bongongo Society in anti-witchcraft rites. Exceptional example. Yale archive number: 84865.
