Teacher, painter, and muralist born in Chicago, Illinois, Ralph Arnold studied at Roosevelt University and the Chicago Art Institute. He is best known for the collages and assemblages he began making in the early 1960's. In the late 1960s, he took up teaching and from 1972 to 2000 he was an influential and admired figure at Loyola University in Chicago. Mr. Arnold exhibited at Rockford College, IL, 1965, 1968, 1970; Benjamin Galleries, 1966, 1968; Violence in American Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL, 1969; NY State Fair, 1969, Philadelphia Art Alliance, 1969; Barat College, Lake Forest, IL, 1969, 1971; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, 1971, among others. His work can be found at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Fisk University, TN, and Rockford College, IL.
