IMPORTANT AUCTION OF TIFFANY, HANDEL AT ANTIQUE HELPER Dan Ripley’s Antique Helper to disperse collections from prominent Indianapolis estate on June 28 and 29, 2008
June 3, 2008 (Indianapolis, Indiana) Joni Back-Bubenzer. Dan Ripley is pleased to announce a very special auction weekend on June 28 and 29. This exciting weekend will encompass a wide range of collecting tastes and styles, with offerings running the gamut, from coins and sports memorabilia, to fine art and rare antiques. Tiffany and Handel lamps, fine art, Orientalia, militaria, art glass, taxidermy, and a myriad of discovery items complete this diverse two-day sale.
On Saturday, June 28, Antique Helper will present two very different auctions. The outdoor discovery auction will include selections from various collections and estates. Inside the auction house, a cataloged auction of sports cards, memorabilia and coins will be offered.
The Summer Art and Antiques auction on Sunday, June 29 includes items from several consignors, in addition to a number of important pieces from the Estate of Ted Z. Leslie.Among the major highlights of this sale will be a selection of rare Tiffany and Handel lamps from Mr. Leslie’s estate. Art glass offerings include a rare 1923 Rene Lalique Camees Deco glass vase, a Rene Lalique Rampillon vase, and a rare Steuben green and gold aurene vase. The focus on fine art will include works by Randolph Coats, Louis Oscar Griffith, Glenn Cooper Henshaw, Doel Reed, Raymond Katz and Sir Godfrey Kneller (attributed). Several works by Robert Lohman, Charles Bowen Sims, and a large 18th/19th Century Italian oil painting depicting the Biblical story of the Sacrifice of Isaac add drama to the catalog. An Austro-Hungary silver teapot, Tiffany sterling master salt, mint julep cups, a Japanese sterling cigar case, and numerous flatware pieces complete an attractive selection of sterling silver. Other decorative art items include a Barye bronze lion and tiger, Vienna bronzes, a large marble statue modeled after Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus,” china and ceramics, including a pair of Staffordshire spill vases. Pottery selections include a Bennington ice water pitcher and a selection of Roseville. A Steinway baby grand piano and a player piano round out the inventory , which also include several clocks, as well as quilts, estate and costume jewelry and tapestries. Fine art by Gerda Christoffersen, Paul Kuo, and Sue Krzyston bring added appeal to an array of Native American offerings that also includes sterling and turquoise jewelry, Navajo rugs, baskets and silver. Selections of fine Orientalia will include a Japanese Meiji porcelain and a sterling vase by Shofu, a Japanese Meiji damascene box, netsuke, cloisonné, and porcelain, in addition to Victorian display cabinets and more. The diversity of this auction is far-reaching. Arm chair hunters and collectors of antique taxidermy will be pleased to find an extremely large, snarling grizzly bear, a full bodied caribou, antelope, and elephant feet. The auction continues on this manly bent, with a selection of militaria that includes swords, GAR badges and Civil War memorabilia. Meanwhile, carousel animals are included to help bidders commune with their inner child. 19th Century enthusiasts will be pleased to find a collection of daguerreotypes, gutta percha cases and photogravures, as well as Currier and Ives and Wallace Nutting prints.
